Kicking off 2018 with Managing Director of Crain's Academy, Amy Shivvers

It is true, the calendar year has changed but that doesn't mean it is too late to set new year goals that are achievable! To get you inspired check out Marshall Goldsmith who has some great stuff on changing behavior, and the difference between knowing we have to change and actually doing it. The doing is the hard part, of course. Marshall is a world-renowned business educator and coach and his singular ability to get results for top leaders has drawn over 150 CEOs and their management teams to address change in the workplace. Could be something there, yes?

Next, take time to reflect to go forward (Emily Drake is a believer and fan of reflection!). We offer this annual review tool from Chris Guillebeau. Since 2005, Chris has spent the better part of a week in late December (or early January) planning his life for the next year. Overall, he feels this is the best decision he's made in terms of working towards multiple goals simultaneously. The idea is to create a road map for the year ahead—not a rigid daily schedule, but an overall outline of what matters to you and what you hope to achieve in the new year. You can complete this process in bits and pieces over several days, partly because it helps to think about it slowly. In his essay he'll take you step-by-step through what I he does annually each new year. You certainly don't have to use his system, but we hope you are inspired to set goals for 2018 if you haven't. Chris's organization, The Art of Non-Conformity (AONC), is a home for unconventional people doing remarkable things.
